so what? i like her

She’s Orianthi and, yes, I like her.

Plus, I think she rips that guitar UP. But I need Cullen to tell me if she does. If he says she doesn’t, then, clearly, I am done with her.

Although I will still continue to work out to these songs. But with contempt then, of course. Contempt will drip from every word I sing at the top of my lungs.

Ooh, at about 3:20 in the video below, I was on sheer tenterhooks as to how it would end! Nailbiting suspense, pippa!

In the one below, she has a purty sparkly guitar. I need Cullen to explain what’s going on with the guitar in the foreground because it doesn’t look to be what she’s playing, but maybe it is. I really don’t know. So … is that cool or just weird?

The red eye of Sauron is making me insecure. I need non red-eyed people to tell me what to think. As usual.

Oh, but check her out at about 2:12-2:27.

  1. She performed “According to You” live on Idol this past season. It met with my approval. She likes that Eddie Van Halen hammer-picking on the guitar, don’t she?

  2. /But I need Cullen to tell me if she does/

    Hahahahahaha.

Yeah, she’s got chops. I think the Eddie Van Halen comparison, Fly made is apt.

Her playing reminds me of Neal Schon (Journey’s guitarist). It’s very good and has that general commercial appeal.

And the guitar in front on the bottom video is mostly playing along with the song – it seems to be out of synch here and there.

  3. Cullen — Oh, I completely defer to you on all issues guitar! I can just say if I LIKE something; I can’t actually say if it’s good. I think my ear is pretty good, but I don’t know much about guitar at all.

MB made the same Eddie Van Halen comparison you guys made.
You’re all on the same page! Woo hoo! atient

The men shall now party at the rock’n’roll yurt!

Ooooh. I just hit on something. The SYC totally needs a rock’n’roll yurt. Cullen, NF, you guys are in charge of that. We need pictures.

  4. You like what you like! I’m cool with that. Some of my favorite music is played by horrible musicians. It’s a matter of taste. Ms. Orianthi’s music is a bit too pop for my blood, but I respect her playing skills.

I just Wikipedia’d her and found out she was the lead guitarist for Michael Jackson’s concert series This Is It. This is interesting because one of Jackson’s previous concert lead guitarists was uber-guitarist Jennifer Batten (check out this video of her playing Flight of the Bumblebee, and check out that HAIR!). Jackson apparently had a talent for finding amazing female guitarists.

And here’s an interesting Van Halen tie-in. Eddie did the solo for the song Beat It and that inspired Jennifer to learn how to play that way and has in turn inspired tons of other guitarists. Source: Another awesome video where she talks about her time with Jackson.

A rock and roll Yurt would have to be a Sleeper Coach. Not exactly playing by the rules, but rock and roll doesn’t play by the rules!

  5. Cullen — Thanks for those links. I’d read about the Michael Jackson thing, too.

She’s a little too pop-ish for me, too — or slightly bubble gum or something — but I do REALLY like her way with a guitar. And, again, for working out, sometimes the bubble gum ain’t bad.

  6. Oh, and the Sleeper Coach is totally bueno with me. I mean, we have a crocheted bus or something, don’t we? And another trailer, too. And boats. And caravans.

I see the yurts as simply the foundation of our world-dominating but blissful empire.

  7. Cullen – In that first link JenB looks like she could have been playing with Stryper during the Yellow and Black Attack days. Saweet shreddn’
