Wow. Bob Costas is now reporting that the IOC is finally investigating the ages of some of the members of China’s Women’s Gymnastics team. There are definite discrepancies in the records of 3 of their gymnasts. If they are proven to be under 16 years of age, their team would end up with only 2 individual bronzes; Nastia would get that gold on uneven bars that she was edged out for; and the U.S. team would go from silver to gold.
Wow. WOW. But we all knew something funny was going on, right?
Muy interesante, chicas y chicos, no?
Also, two other Olympic crushes, Todd Roger and Phil Dalhausser, just won gold in beach volleyball! Men and women’s teams BOTH get gold!! WOO HOOO!!
Good morning Tracey,
I was watching the beach volleyball last night, and Brazil was killing us 7-2. They came back from that???
China is just clueless. Do they not understand that in lots of the rest of the world, if you cheat, you get called on it? You just don’t re-invent the facts, ala 1984.
I am so glad to see this. I hope someone comes to Texas to deliver her medal in person, if this pans out.
Yeah, this is getting play all over now. Cheating cheaters who are cheating! Cheaters!
Although, to save face it is doubtful that China will ever admit to any intentional wrongdoing. Most likely scenario, they and the IOC talk about some unintentional mistakes, and they are not dq’d. I can see some shared gold medals in the future, or else a straight swap of golds and silvers, with nobody moving up onto the podium.
Oh, and you’d better believe a lot of cash changing hands on every level. That five-buck umbrella? I just funded a payoff to some panjandrum in the IOC from a party apparatchik. Feel the intrigue! It’s like I’m living in a John le Carré novel.
So happy for both volleyball teams. Maybe now the girls will be able to afford clothing! 😉
And yeah, the fact that it took the IOC this long tells me they were willfully ignoring everything. They’re probably only doing it now because everyone around the world is ridiculing the IOC over this. It really sucks, though, because the American women and Nastia should have gotten to have their big moments on the medal podium.
Samuel — Yeah. It was amazing. We won the first set, lost the second, and CRUSHED them in the third. It was so exciting!
