We are hosting our 10th Annual Thanksgiving Orphan’s Dinner. We invite anyone who doesn’t have friends or family in the area to join us. So far, we have 24 people coming! Since my husband’s best friend is coming again this year (first time in about 5 years) we are having an “indian” feast on WD night (he is originally from India and a phenomenal cook!) and then a traditional Thanksgiving meal on TH with a grilled turkey and all the trimmings and a few Indian dishes on the side. A lot of the people who are coming have been with us since almost the beginning but we always have a few who will be coming for the first time. It is all very informal and everyone helps with the cooking and cleaning up. We love doing it! So, if you’re ever in the area you’re more than welcome to join us!!!
We’re driving to our new home in Idaho (actually, we could just be driving to a random hotel in Idaho, since we still don’t have a rent house). Over Thanksgiving, we’re stopping twice in Texas for family gatherings.
We will be continuing the sparkly new tradition from last year of eating Thanksgiving, just the two of us, in our PJ’s. We’re both handy in the kitchen so it’s basically just glutton-fest all day in perfect, glorious privacy. I gotta’ tell ya’, I love this new tradition. It’s the best.
LOL, the supposedly hibernating tortoise! I hope you’ll have a happy Thanksgiving anyway.
Gathering at my parents’ house. My younger sister’s coming north. I’m bringing the shrimp cocktail and praying my SIL doesn’t flake out or have a passive-aggressive moment and show up without her pies. There’s rumors of a Scrabble rematch and my dad seems to be earnestly plotting to hit some Midnight Madness/Black Friday sale at the shopping outlet that just opened in the area.
Hard to believe this time last year my brother was about to get married!
Hubby and I are staying home alone. The kids are Thanksgiving-ing with their girlfriedns’ families, and we are disinvited to my in-laws (gee, I can’t imagine why??), and my parents just moved to the mid-west. It will be a strage, but relaxing day…no BS to deal with, but no warm family stuff either. Just food and football!
Kate P — What’s weird is it actually WAS hibernating. They move around whilst hibernating. Which I don’t really care for. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!
MM — Well, I hope that you and your husband can make a great day of it — in spite of everything. I recommend you go see “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.” I’m serious. We saw it yesterday and it is enchanting. It will get you in the spirit of the season!

sam — That sounds SO wonderful and welcoming! What a fabulous idea. If I’m ever in the area, you can bet I’ll be knocking on your door! 😉
LOL, I’d never read the tortoise story before.

Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Mmmmmm…..Sam, Indian food. I’m all for that!
We’ll be with Brian’s family (20 of us – a small group for his family). Lots of kids, noise, games and food.
Lorrrrrd, the turtle. I love that story.

That’s it!! I’m coming to all your houses and I’m bringing the tortoise.
sarahk — I’m so excited for you! MB lived in Idaho briefly when he was a kid and he loved it. Safe travels, hon, okay?
Thanks, tray! We’re so excited for us too! Ok, for you, I’ll travel safe. 🙂

Great, now I won’t be able to sleep, thinking about ambulatory hibernating tortoises. *shudder*
