From Philip Yancey, my spiritual crush man, who, by the way, looks like this ….
(Okay. So he’s Disco Stu from The Simpsons. “Disco Stuuu has a quote for youuu.”)
….. comes this:
Why am I a Christian? I sometimes ask myself, and to be perfectly honest the reasons reduce to two: (1) the lack of good alternatives, and (2) Jesus. Brilliant, untamed, tender, creative, slippery, irreducible, paradoxically humble — Jesus stands up to scrutiny. He is who I want my God to be.
From The Jesus I Never Knew.
Which you haven’t read yet why? Yancey is a life raft for me. His honesty means everything. READ it. Read anything he’s written. You won’t be sorry.
Priceless. Both the quote and the Disco Stu ref.
I have nothing but respect for Yancey. I’m re-reading “What’s So Amazing About Grace,” and it’s hit me more the second time than the first. We watched his video of this book the first time and would just crack up at his hair and bad 80’s sweaters!
He’s like the lost member of Peter Paul and Mary.
Kathi — I am in love with that book. It just resonates for me. Each reading, as you say, gets better, deeper.
NF — Hahahaha! I know! Like, I love you, man, so much, but what is UP with that hair? Please, please, let your coiffure join the 21st century. Or how ’bout even the ’80s?
