mom and dad, newlyweds

Mom looks soo happy. And dad …. um, yowza! Stop looking at us like that.

We are …. twitterpated.

(He always blushes when I tease him about how “hot” he was — and still is, frankly. My dad is in the choir at their church and I’m tellin’ you, there is more than one warbly-voiced woman, biding her old lady time, just waiting for mom to crump it, all the while loudly wheezing, “OH, How I LOVE, er …. Jesus!”)

I’m onto you, old biddies.

  1. red — I know. It cracks me up, because they’re not the glamorous types now.

jm — Well, let’s see. Dad’s eyes. Mom’s nose, kinda (THANK you, Jesus!), hair color. Oh, and my eyebrows are more like mom’s. They look good on dad, but, well, you know …..

And then, well, my heart-shaped face is kinda my own, I guess.

WG — I am totally serious. I’ve visited their church and SEEN it. My dad is like the life of the blue-haired party. He does these hugely popular …. um …. stand-up comedy routines at every choir dinner and retreat.

Then he makes us watch the videotapes.

Then he sits there and giggles hysterically at himself.

Then I start to giggle hysterically at his hysterical giggling.

Then my mom throws up her hands and says, “You two are crazy!”

It’s not that his routines are so funny to me — it’s the fact that he DOES them. He writes them out and rehearses them and he’s quite proficient in the performance of it, actually. I mean, a certain type of audience really LOVES them! I can hear them on the tapes just CRACKING up!

But it’s also hysterical to me that he cracks himself up. He is unabashed in finding himself the most hilarious thing EVER and when I watch him watching himself, I am literally crying with laughter because I feel like I’m watching a little boy. My 70-year-old dad becomes a little boy to me and it it PRICELESS. I’m laughing just writing this and thinking of his latest routine that he printed out and gave to me that is now displayed on our fridge.

Hahahahahaha, Dad! You are so cute!

  2. Tracey, what a cool picture!

Cherish them! Hang on as long as you can, and TELL them as often as you can how much they mean to you. One day you’ll wish you’d have said it one more time.
