I don’t know if they have them in Cali, but there’s a chain of relatively cheap hotels called Country Inn and Suites, and their lobbies are designed to look like someone’s living room, with fireplaces and wing-backed chairs and stuff. But what’s GREAT about it is that they also have a Lending Library. So you can curl up with a book in the lobby or in your room, and if you’re not finished reading by time you leave, you can take it with you! (They do ask that you return it to an other CI&S location.)
