I don’t usually tear up at the death of celebrities of any kind. It’s just not in my nature, really, no matter how sad a celebrity’s death may make me, but I’ve been tearing up non-stop ever since I heard this news.
We all knew this day was coming. Over the last 18 months, I’ve fretted and dreaded its arrival. Well, here it is.
I loved and admired Christopher Hitchens. The world is a lesser place without him.
His dear friend Salman Rushdie tweeted yesterday: “Goodbye, my beloved friend. A great voice falls silent. A great heart stops.”
Amen.
(And he’d probably hate that I just said that to Rushdie’s quote, haha. But let me stir it up in honor of you, dear Mr. Hitchens.)
Even though I knew it was coming, I gasped when I saw. He’s been so prolific in the last year – well, he always was … but it’s like he wanted to get out as much as he could.
I will never stop missing him and his voice.
RIP, Hitchens.
I like the anecdote I heard today where Hitchens was scheduled for a debate on a Christian campus. He took to the podium and said, “I’ve stepped into a den of lambs.”
Hahahahaha. So witty. And good God, that voice of his. So sexy. It’s not just me, is it? Yamahama. I listened to radio shows I HATE just because he was on being all brilliant and sexy.
Yes, sexy sexy.
He seemed to enjoy debate – unlike many other talking-heads who just want to sit in a belljar of agreement. His debate with Al Sharpton was one of the most entertaining things I have seen in a long long time. And Sharpton was great, too. I’m no fan of his, but he was wonderful in the debate – you got the sense the two were having a blast. Irreconcilable differences to be sure … but God, once we stop CONVERSING with each other, we are truly lost.
sheila — This show I’ve referenced (Hugh Hewitt) is going to be making about 20+ hours of audio of Hitchens’ interviews available in the new year. I’m gonna get those even if I have to join that blowhard’s “Hugh-niverse” to have access to them. (I think that’s how they’re doing it. Subcribe and have access to these audio files. Ugh.)
I’ll do it, though, just to get the Hitchens!
I would have loved to see that debate, btw.
Tracey – I think the Sharpton/Hitch debate is on Youtube.
