I love to stand in front of the Bierstadt in the Smithsonian… the immensity, the depth… and the symbolism of that intensely lovely American West scene with the faint European mountains in the background (leave that old stuff behind, our West is more beautiful than anything Europe had to offer us!). Bierstadt was the original travel-poster designer — you guys gotta go see this place out here, it’s unbelievable!

This one is in the Seattle Art Museum. I’ve never seen it in person, but it’s supposed to be about 7 feet wide. Amazing.
Wow, GraD. That one is huge too. I love the scope and the moodiness of his work.
Amazing. Painter of light, eat yer heart out.
There is NOTHING as gorgeous as the Pacific Coast…
What a beauty!!!
