how i love them

House and Wilson from House.

How I love this photo. One frame, completely summing up the relationship between House (Hugh Laurie) and Wilson (Robert Sean Leonard). The thousand-mile stare on RSL’s face kills me. And while I adore — ADORE — Hugh Laurie in all things and his greatness as House virtually goes without saying, I think I have an Ode to Wilson in me that needs to be written. Or rather, an Ode to Robert Sean Leonard.

Because House? He’d be squat without Wilson.

Squat, I tell you.

Robert Sean Leonard is brilliant on the show — equally as brilliant as Hugh Laurie — but more subtle, which is why he probably doesn’t get the attention he deserves for his work in this role.

Ack, I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. I gotta write that ode.

  1. You make a good point. I really find it hard to believe that Robert Sean Leonard has never gotten nominated/gotten any awards for his performance. He is superb.

At this point, considering the way the show has tanked (haven’t watched it last year, won’t be watching it this coming year; can’t take the Huddy, don’t think TPTB have any idea how many fans HATE that pairing), I’d actually like to see a Hilson pairing. That could be a hell of a lot of fun — lots more fun than the way it’s going now.

  2. This is one of my favorite shows ever and it is due to the characters and their relationships. The only downside to the show is the formula for each episode, it can get a bit old and predictable. I love it when they break away from the formula like when they sent House and Wilson to his fathers funeral. And I must give a shout out to Lisa Edelstein (Dr. Cuddy).

  3. I can’t look at Robert Sean Leonard without thinking of him in “Dead Poet’s Society.” I think that the House/Wilson relationship is the best part of the show. I don’t watch it very often, though.

  4. NLP — House and Wilson already have a pairing. 😉

Brian — Yeah. There is a very set formula. House has an epiphany every episode at 8:50 p.m. — or 9:50, depending on where you live. I’m always thinking, “Oh, ten minutes left. Here comes THE ANSWER!!” In the hands of lesser actors, it would fall flat and I’d never watch, but because the performances are so good, it keeps me watching.
