  1. Oh yes you must Netflix a few. I’d put 12 Angry Men at the top, Batman Begins second (if you don’t want to see it do it for your man), and The Usual Suspects third. I will hesitantly recommend American History X due to the violence and brutality but Edward Norton does a great job.

I remember liking 12 Monkeys too and can’t remember why. odd… huh.

  2. The Curse of the Black Pearl was the first one.

12 Monkeys was directed by Terry Gilliam, my favorite director. While not his best work, I thought it was wonderful.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a great movie if you like that manic, British gangster kind of film. Seeing how you like Tarantino, I bet you’d like this one.

  3. Judgement at Nuremburg is one of those I stop and watch whenever it’s on the guide. I think you’d really like it. AMAZING cast. I REALLY liked American History X. Way more violent than most movies I like. But Edward Norton is stunning in it. It’s one of those movies that is not what you think it’s going to be, very disturbing, yet somehow redemptive.

  4. I can’t stand 2001 a space odyssey either. There is no point to that piece of drek! I also had the great misfortune to be the Events Manager at the Krannert Center when they had HAL’s 25th birthday party (according to the movie he was born at the U of Illinois which is where the Krannert Center is located). We had to host a good portion of the birthday celebrations. What a nightmare week that was! Roger Ebert came down to give a wrap-up lecture and we even had Arthur Clarke call in live over the internet from wherever he was (SriLanka or something I think). The phone bill was astronomical b/c we had to have him on the phone ahead of time to make sure he would do it and then he threatened to hang up when we ran about 5 minutes late and Roger had to run over to the phone and very politely request that he stick around just a little bit longer!

  5. Chick Voice — Yeah, I love Edward Norton just in general. Maybe I’ll put that one on the list.

sam — I feel like I should see it again, I guess. I love Kubrick and I feel like I am supposed to like it; required to like it, and that I’m just some slack-jawed yokel for feeling somewhat “eh” about it.

Well, I guess it’s not fair to say I feel “eh” about it. I mean, listen to me. I’m clearly very invested and paranoid about what people will think of me for not liking it.

    What a goob.

  6. Interesting list–and interesting what you’ve seen, T! “Notorious” was on TV last weekend. Love that one. I borrowed “The Pianist” from the library but I haven’t figured out when I’m going to watch it yet.

  7. Out of the Past is fun if you like Noir. See it in the dark late at night with a big bowl of popcorn.

Her: No one is all bad.
Him: Well, she comes the closest.

  8. sheila — Definitely. I liked your idea of putting the ones you loved in red, but I don’t have that feature on this old blog. At least …. that I know of …

Kate P — Oh, “Notorious” is amazing. I need to own that one on DVD, I think, so I can watch it whenever. “The Pianist” — wow. Adrian Brody blew me away. I think you’ll like it.
