SALEISHA!!

I think she’s just adorable.

Even more important …. praise the Lawd we will no longer have to endure last cycle’s winner, Jaslene, gah-gah-gahing through her Cover Girl commercials with that weird Marlee-Matlin-meets-Rosie-Perez voice of hers.

So, yes. What was I saying about what’s important this time of year? Oh, uhm …. snark, that’s right.

  1. I don’t get the judges at all! Last season, they were nuts about Jaslene (who sounds like all the people you mentioned, tray, with John Leguizamo thrown in for good measure) whenever her photographs looked super-masculine. This time they went for cutesy. You do see the Tootie resemblance, right?

Please tell me you saw the beginning of the fashion show where Tyra was brought in on the back of Chinese peasants. I just about died.

  2. Haven’t seen this show (it triggers bad “food thoughts”) but can’t help noticing how she resembles both Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell… and Tootie (though I never would have made the connection without Kate’s help).

  3. My friends and I call her Tootie! So funny.

Snark IS, of course, an important part of any major holiday. 😉

I was all about Tootie on accounta’ listening to Chantal go on and on about how she was “made” for modeling. I felt like she was just tottering around saying, “Look! I’m freakishly tall. I’m SO thin. I’m blonde. I’m GORGEOUS. What else could I possibly do??????” But then Chantal flubbed the final walk and I decided I was rooting for her just to be ornery.

  4. The Television-Without-Pity forum commenters dubbed her “Tootie Carparts” (weird recycling photo shoot).

Marisa–Snark AND off-color jokes in the kitchen for holidays.

The Kate P household (uh, me and the cat) maintains that Tootie had been the Chosen One for a long time, and that Chantal was set up. But frankly we didn’t think either contestant really filled the bill this time around. But that’s O.K. b/c the final for “Most Smartest Model” is coming up.

  5. I have a freakishly nice clavicle, muscular shoulders and pretty cords in my neck like Lil’ Tootie. You’re absolutely right, sheila, it does make life more worth living. But I like to think it’s compensation for having a lackluster middle-to-thigh area. Wanna’ trade?

  6. I still think she’s adorable, you guys! I will not be dissuaded!

I did think, though, that #3, Jenah, DID get a bit of a bum rap. They just didn’t get her personality — her sarcasm. Admittedly, she needs to learn to reign it in, but I almost felt like the judges were working hard to give that poor girl a complex. They’d sing at her in chorus week after week, “Who IS Jenah? We don’t feel like we know you. Who is the REAL Jenah?” until the poor girl finally broke down the last couple weeks crying, “I feel like I’m losing myself.” Jeez, hon, where’d you get that idea, I wonder? I dunno. Let’s face it: That girl took the most BEAUTIFUL shots of anyone throughout the whole competition.

I just felt like the judges — (and I still love you, Tyra!) — unfairly lashed out at a girl whose personality didn’t quite fit the supermodel mold.

  7. Oh, but didn’t you all think Saleisha’s photo at the Great Wall of China was amazing?? That leap into the air she did? The warrior look on her face? Gorgeous.

  8. Agreed on Jenah. Weird how Tyra was trying to convince her that her consolation prize was that she “found herself,” even as they were dismissing her for supposedly “not knowing who she is.”

I was a little baffled about the Great Wall shoot. The way the judges usually go on and on about making sure a model “has a neck” in a shot–that Great Wall shot for Saleisha didn’t have much, so I was scratching my head over that. Jumping was a good idea, though.

  9. Yeah. They did it to Sarah first, poor girl, convincing her she was a plus-size model, destroying her for losing weight, undermining her confidence… which is, I suppose, great prep for actually working as a model, but still unpleasant. My bet would have been Jenah to win, actually, but my lovely bride had Saleisha pegged. She is usually more accurate than I am about this; either that or my Sports Mush powers were activated and I jinzed Jenah without realizing it (and Sarah before her). I’m sorry, girls!

BTW – agreed on Jaslene. Why did she win last cycle, exactly?

  10. NF — Jaslene is mindboggling to me. Just off-putting. Attractive girl for a man.

But she needs never to speak again.

And Sarah was gorgeous. GORgeous. Her face — my Lord. So stunning. I agree with you on what happened there. Are the judges sometimes doing a Simon Cowell thing with the girls? A cruel-to-be-kind scenario?

And on Saleisha — you know, I actually think this girl could go far. I think she could really BE a supermodel. I mean, where is the current black supermodel? Maybe she could fill that gap. She’s proven she can go edgy, but she’s got that sparkle too. I think, unlike Jaslene, Saleisha’s appeal could be universal.

Kate — I dunno on the neck thing. I think it was her face, her eyes, the risk she took — the sheer physicality of what she did. So different from the other girls. I think that’s the shot that won it for her.
