This is SO embarrassing. But you know how people will write about a book and then, where the title of the book is, they put a link to the book at Amazon? Uhm, yeah. I don’t know how to do that. I thought you just copied and pasted the number in your link thingie, but that hasn’t worked for me. So do you type the whole damn number into your link window and then, voila, an hour later, your link is done?? Any assistance is appreciated.
I am not smart.
Please don’t shun me.
I would never shun you. I barely know what an RSS feed is.
The thing that confuses me, though, is where you say, above, “an hour later” … what do you mean??? Why an hour later? Help me understand!
I link to books all the time – and yes, I copy the entire link – which will look like a bunch of gobbledygook – and put it in the link thingy.
Example from today on my site:
http://www.amazon.com/Damage-Josephine-Hart/dp/0449911888/ref=pd_bbs_2/105-0943875-4390854?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1194189706&sr=8-2
That’s the URL of the book I wanted to talk about.
I basically just went to Amazon, searched for the book title – got a bunch of results (you know, the movie – then there’s the hard cover URL, the paper back URL, etc.) – I click on it, get the URL and put it in ye olde link thingy.
Hope that helps!!!
Do not fret, you are not alone. My frustration lead me to leaving it off my pathetic little blog. Sorry I’m no help.
Just copy the entire URL (web address) from the http:// to the very end. And put that in the link tool (if you have one).
If you don’t have a link tool, then… type this first:
Book Name . Okay? I’m sure that is clear as mud. 😉
Rats! The comment thingy reformatted my html. Maybe I should just email it to you. What book do you want to link?
The code is this:
BOOK TITLE, or whatever you want to be a hyperlink
Just take out the extra spaces.
Darn it! Same problem as Anita. Here’s a good tutorial on hyperlinking.
Aw, you ARE smart–smart enough to ask for help!
(And, uh, I don’t know anything about that html stuff so I’m extra-not-smart.)
Anita — Well, any book. ALL books! Haha! Yeah, email me, if you don’t mind. I would so appreciate it.
….. And here I thought you just copied and pasted the URL of the book ….
So Cullen, what do I DO with that? When I click on what you put there, I get the 404 error.
Kate P — You are a library science student. SCIENCE, my dear. You can’t fool me.
Sheila — Oh, yeah. That makes no sense at all! Hahaha! What?? Am I on DRUGS or something??? No, because if you go and manually type that whole URL for a book, it’s so long, it takes an hour?? GAH. That is hiLARious, Tracey.
You guys, I’ve TRIED copying the URL and it doesn’t work!!
Anita and Cullen:
You guys look like you’re talking about the same thing, but I am still confused. Okay. Here’s what will work. Pretend I am 5. Ready? GO!
Oh, and if you see a post that just contains a link to a book, ANY book, and nothing else, that means I figured it out!!
Okay. Here’s the deal:
I can copy the URL, but my link window will NOT let me PASTE it there.
Wha???
I think you need a designated book-linker. You’re flagged.
I’m emailing you.
sarahk — YAAY! The WordPress Goddess! Thankee, ma’am!
[laughing at the insanity]
I sent you a couple of emails… but I’m thinking that they aren’t getting through… no?
