really stupid stuff I’ve heard lately

“It’s like art imitating life imitating art; that’s what makes it so real” Billy Ray Cyrus commenting on the Hannah Montana phenomenon.

“And, well, my fiance — he passed away.”

“Well, didn’t he DROWN??”

“Uhm, yes.”

“Well, did you try to hold on to him??”

“Well, we tried to hold on to each other, but after a while it just wasn’t possible.” Exchange between tsunami survivor/supermodel Petra Nemcova and that master of the social arts, Martha Stewart.

  1. I could never make it in the celebrity world; my head would explode.

I also think my head would explode if I worked on one of those morning “magazine” shows where they seem to shift seamlessly between talking about “what is the hippest new profile in shoes” and “children in Asia being kidnapped and sold into the sex trade.”

That said, the Billy Ray Cyrus quote is kind of funny. “Art imitating life imitating art” might make a good name for a blog, were it not so long.

  2. And Marisa — Hi! You have a great blog — I’m glad I discovered you.

Was that where I heard this quote? I couldn’t remember. Oh, Billy Ray. You are precious.

  3. From what I understand — haha — Hannah Montana is the latest teen pop sensation making all the little kiddos go crazy. Like my 7-year-old niece. It’s a show starring Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter (she’s 14? 15?) Miley. He’s a one-time superstar and she’s his mild-mannered brunette daughter by day and pop singer Hannah Montana by night. Or something like that, sam. There’s some kind of alter ego thing going on? I think?

Just know this: Billy Ray and his cute teenage daughter have a show. Someone at some point becomes Hannah Montana and sings.

    How’s that?

  4. good enough for me! We don’t have cable for our TV and w/o it we don’t have any reception so I’m way behind on pop culture! Actually prefer it this way though…so many other things we can do instead…

  5. I’m glad you found my blog, Tray – ’cause that’s how I found yours!

Yeah, I was flipping channels after work the other day and caught that moment on Ellen. The funny thing was that as I was thinking, “what the heck did he just say?” – his daughter gave him that look and I couldn’t help but feel that she, too, realized how absurd he sounded trying to philosophise about Hanna Montana.

I thought Hanna Montana had blonde hair (i’ve only seen promo stuff). Does she wear a wig when she morphs into a pop star? Double life storylines are ALWAYS a hit with little girls, though. Just look at Jem and the Holograms. 😉

  6. Also there’s a huge controversy right now about the price of Hannah Montana concert tickets.

I work for one of those morning magazine shows ricki describes in her comment – so I am frighteningly up to date with … well … everything.

  7. sheila — you would SO be scoring with The Peep aka the niece P*per. (Her name is slowly going to be changing on this blog … mine, too … ahemm … better late than never??)
