summer reading challenge

Got it from Sheila. Who got it here:

The Summer Reading Challenge, running June 1 to August 1, 2007.

So here’s my (very modest for now) list:

1) Grace Eventually, Anne Lamott

2) Seven Gothic Tales, Isak Dinesen

3) Out of Africa, Isak Dinesen

4) Manhunt, The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer, James Swanson

5) Being Logical: A Guide to Good Thinking, D.Q. McInerny (Hahahahaha! I’m laughing so you don’t have to. Really. Shut up. You don’t have to.)

6) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling (Natch!)

Oh, also: Subject to addition, subtraction, alteration, and complete abandonment.

  1. Hi. This is off topic, sorta.
I bumped into your blog (I like calling them journals, better) and after reading some posts in the vexing Christians tag, I couldn’t remember how I came to your blog. But then I realized it was a link from a link from a link. (your site meter thingy probably has it down better than I do.)

Anyway, you run an interesting, humane and true blog here, as you already know. Where ever you are, I’m pretty sure I’m not, but you can check my website to be sure. So I’ll put your feed in my bloglines if it’s okay….?

  2. It’s gonna be like a shark frenzy when the new Harry Potter comes out.

I will need to read it as quickly as I possibly can – closing out all outside influences so that no spoilers reach my ears … I’m almost NERVOUS. But I can’t wait!

  3. Harry Potter comes out on my birthday, and will be delivered to my house. I will be standing next to the mailbox tapping my foot. And since it is MY birthday, I plan to sit and read all day.

I am with Sheila…no spoilers this time! When Half-Blood Prince came out, a woman I work with saw me reading it in the litchen and said “Can you believe *** died?” (I didn’t want to be the spoiler for anyone who hasn’t read it…if such a person still exists). Anyway, I wanted to cry. How could she have been so totally mean and stupid?

  4. Hey, Yorick — Well, thank you. That’s nice of you. And sure, the feed in the bloglines thingy. Uhm, honestly, I don’t even know what that is, but as long as eating beets isn’t involved, then sure.

  5. This comment box makes me think of Hamlet and the Violent Femmes at the same time. I need an aspirin.

My summer reading just arrived: “Why Smart Men Marry Smart Women” by Christine Whelan. Sounded interesting. Obvious, but interesting.

  6. Sheila, I started reading her column on s-e-x and dating at bustedhalo (a somewhat moderate Catholic site for “young adults” whatever that means) and that’s how I found out about the book. Her website’s got this funny quiz to find out if you’re one of the SWANS (strong woman achiever no spouse). That alone is worth the visit!
