from the stacks

I got this from Sheila, who got it here.

It’s the From the Stacks Winter Book Challenge and here’s how it works:

If you are anything like me your stack of purchased to-be-read books is teetering over. So for this challenge we would be reading 5 books that we have already purchased, have been meaning to get to, have been sitting on the nightstand and haven’t read before. No going out and buying new books. No getting sidetracked by the lure of the holiday bookstore displays.

Okay. So I’m in. And excited! Oh, and the challenge runs from November 1 to January 30. Here are my picks:

1. Atonement, Ian McEwan

2. Anne of Avonlea, L.M. Montgomery

3. American Brutus, Michael Kauffman (already reading)

4. The Professor and The Madman, Simon Winchester

5. The Eyre Affair, Jasper Ffffffforde. Yeah, I’m pretty sure there are 7 f’s in ol’ Jasper’s name. And this one is assuming I can find this book. It’s somewhere around here.

  1. i wanna play!

but i am pretty sure the books that i bought and haven’t read are that way because they turned out to be totally uninspiring within the first few pages.

(dang your comment box and sidebar!)

  2. You will so enjoy The Professor and the Madman. Intensely interesting.

I’m playing. My books are starting to take over my bedroom. All 3 –yes, three — stacks of ’em.

    Glad it’s not just me.

  3. I’m in. I won’t even include The Jungle Book, since I finished it three days ago.

    1. “The Red Badge of Courage.” Yes, I am ashamed of myself.
    2. “100 Words Every Word Lover Should Know.” The Ladybug bought this for me and I want to get through it.
    3. Two slim volumes of Robert Frost poetry (yay, Dover Books)
    4. “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.” If I can get past four chapters without any Peter Lorre impressions I’ll consider it a rousing success. (Yes, I would do the impression, out loud, to myself. “You’ve got to help me, Reeck!”)
    5. “The Groom’s Guide to Getting Married.” I think that’s the title. I started it just before I moved and haven’t unpacked it yet, which is why it’s down at the end of the list.

  4. My list also includes Atonement. I’m glad there’s someone else in the world who hasn’t read it yet!! And I had SO much fun with the Eyre Affair…hope you like it, too!
