I dunno …. because it’s tuesday and I think it’s funny?

Actress Tuesday Weld, when asked by a reporter what drove her into seclusion in the ’70s:

“I think it was a Buick.”

  1. I just watched her again in “Falling Down” — I’d forgotten that she played Robert Duvall’s needy wife.

She was SO good. Man. She just drove you crazy, but you ached for her.

Had to watch that movie again to relive my Turning Point with Michael Douglas. I still feel that way. GREAT movie.

  2. If you mean “Turning Point” as in: Wow, he’s actually pretty good – I had one with him as well – and it was “Wonder Boys”. I was like: wow, he’s funny, and touching, and humble – it’s not a vain performance! None of that macho posturing silliness in his other movies!!

    He’s great!

  3. Great, now you know what I’ve GOT to play on the ol’ shuffle…

Introduce me to that big blonde
She’s got a touch of Tuesday Weld
She’s wearing Ambush with a French twist
She’s got ’em wild and she can tell

She likes to limbo, that much is clear
She’s got the right dynamic for the new frontier

  4. red — Exactly. He was one of my “Turning Point” people — because of Falling Down. And yes, Wonder Boys was a really extraordinary performance, unselfconscious.

Nightfly — Steely Dan! I LOVES me some Steely Dan!!

oh, and red? Can we PLEASE talk about Shopgirl?? I have not recovered. It must be discussed. That movie made me ache to my very core.

  5. Well, let’s talk about it some day in the future then. It does almost feel like there’s too much there to take it all in. I think I want to own it …. or do I?

On an utterly shallow note, though, I will admit that I howled at this:

The “do you have a jiffy bag” scene.

    then …

“Feels like someone’s throwing marshmallows at me.”

What a quirky, endearing character. Like he would have been played by Steve Martin years ago, that’s how Jeremy felt to me.
