christmas morning 2008

My first white Christmas ever. Christmas morning, I woke up in the motorhome in the driveway where we sleep in this cozy cave, twisted the blind open, and, literally, screamed at the sight of the silent whiteness floating down. It’s snowing on Christmas! Ahhhh! That’s how MB was awakened on Christmas morning — by my piercing snow scream. Poor man.

Me, MB, and sister-in-law Z out in the snow Christmas morning, ASAP after breakfast. Brother M is taking the photo and, most likely, plotting how to get his unsuspecting So Cal sister-in-law to walk under a snowy tree again while he shakes the branches. Honestly, he’s a terrible pest and I long to beat him to a pulp but the man is made of iron. Freak. I borrow that huge poofy turquoise coat from my mother-in-law every year because, uhm, I live in San Diego and I don’t own a coat. I am not kidding.

Please note my awesome black beanie and how I only come up to MB’s shoulders. And he’s not even standing up straight. He’s a giant. Freak.

Oh, and yes. Sunglasses. Automatic for me. I own sunglasses — currently, these ugly ones — but I do not own a coat.

Freak.

  1. Tracy,

Just so you know, White Christmases never get old!

I love that you don’t have a coat. I’m sad for you though, because winter is my favorite season. (I just moved to Minnesota, so I’m in luck – we’ve definitely had winter here this year.)

I went to college in Omaha and had a friend there from San Diego. Once, during the winter, we were discussing the weather (we must have been getting ready to go somewhere or something…?) and I mentioned the current temperature. I was met with a “what do you mean by ‘negative’?”

Me: Uh, the same thing it usually means. As in, it is currently 4 degrees below zero.

    Him: What?

He literally had no idea that the temperature could get below zero. It didn’t even begin to make sense in his head that such a thing could happen. “I don’t know, I guess I just thought that when it got to zero, it just stopped.”

Uh, not quite. But good try! 🙂

  2. Katie — Hahahaha. Well, I do know about “negative,” but I’m not sure I’ve ever experienced it. Yeah, when you’re not a sunshine-and-surfing kind of girl — as I am not — you probably shouldn’t live in San Diego. But there it is.

  3. Screaming on Christmas morning–you’re a kid at heart, for sure! That is too cute.

Speaking of cute, you all look adorable. You could be an ad in LL Bean or something. Now that would sell coats.

  4. After all you’ve had to go through recently, you of all people deserved the magic of waking up to a White Christmas. Sending you positive energy daily.
