this is genius

Hahahahahahahahaha! I am in love with these people. The whole bridal party rehearsed the dance to “Thriller” for a month. The groom slowed the original video way down, got the moves, and taught them to everyone for the wedding reception.

Pleeeeeeeaze, Nightfly! You’re getting married soon, right? I am begging you — begging — you to do this.

All for our entertainment, of course, because if I’ve taught you nothing else, I hope I’ve at least taught you that your wedding isn’t about you.

It’s about me.

  1. I’ve watched it 4 times now. Tears are streaming down my face yet I am also laughing. I am a mess. I love these people!!!! I love the chick in blue in the front. I love the bride stomping around in the 2nd row. I love the rather portly gentlemen over to the side in the 2nd row. And the dude who is obviously the groom is a star. I mean, watch him! This is so so great. Makes me just … bah. Feel good to be a human being, I guess.

  2. I know! The groom is just in heaven, you can tell. And he can really move, too. Oh, and the blue girl with her claw hands. She can’t dance so well, but her claw hands are so earnest, like she cares so much about getting the hands up there, all ERRRGGHH! You can just feel her trying. It kills me. I love how they just high-five and woo-hoo each other when it’s over. I mean, literally, I’ve watched this thing about 10 times now. And red fish, I totally agree with you. Look at that bride all hunched over in her big ol’ gown, no less, being the best sport of all, letting her man be the star of this moment. I would bet on them to be in it for the long haul. How could you ever ever leave the person who danced “Thriller” with you in front of everyone on the day you were married??

And, sheila, I know. My heart just feels bigger watching it, you know?

  3. Oh, and I love how they all just mill around at the beginning, like they’re really wanting to surprise the guests. At least, that’s how it kinda looks to me. And I just noticed something this, oh, 12th time I watched it — the pregnant lady milling around at the start IS in the dance. You see her for a split second in the back. Hahahahaha!

  4. I am agog.

That is really awesome. I think I’d go for the Beat It dance, just because I love the “everybody deals a pack of cards” move they pull in the middle. (And, if things break poorly, there may actually be a knife fight for me to break up at the reception.) But the claw hands move is special. She sells it completely. I was absolutely buying her as an undead partygoer.

  5. Okay – my trusted advisor tells me that lots of people do the “Thriller” dance even today and this is not a big ol’ flashing blue light indicator that the groom is gayer than Sanjaya.

In that case, this is kinda sweet. Big guy in the second row and the bride, with her big ol’ booty flowers are my favorites.
