carrie underwood asked out by stranger in front of fiance

Who knows how I stumbled across this little snippet of video? Somehow in the meanderings of my need-to-get-a-life life, I found this, of all things. But it’s adorable.

Some dude asks out Carrie Underwood in front of her fiance — now husband — hunky hockey player Mike Fisher. Watch his face. First, it’s like, “I’m gonna kill this guy.” Then, when Carrie responds the way she does, there’s that grin of his. That killer grin says it all. He says nothing to the dude the entire time. He’s just that strong silent presence. The dude’s parting comment is pretty funny too and it leaves Fisher grinning even more. (Uhm, I can definitely see the appeal of this fellow of hers. Ahem.)

So much going on in just 19 seconds of tape.

  1. Ha! No, that plan did not work out at all the way he’d planned, poor guy. (But I’m glad it didn’t involve his getting pummeled by a hockey player fiance who lacked a sense of humor.)

  2. Haha, no, it didn’t. But I think at first, the guy DOES kind of diss their relationship by saying, “I don’t know how serious this is.” I’m thinking for Fisher that would have felt a bit surreal and awkward, like, “Is this guy really doing this in front of me??” But my take on it is that Fisher is actually pretty amused by the guy in the end. How can you not laugh at his final self-deprecating shot?

  3. Sheila — I agree. Like he’s gotta give the guy snaps for effort. But his grin when she says, “It’s pretty serious” is just killer. He seems to LOVE that she says that. He lets Carrie handle the whole thing. A less secure guy could have said, “Dude, she’s with me. Back off” or whatever. He just let the whole scene play itself out. No intervention necessary. I love that.

  4. Also, I have to say: This dude knows enough about Carrie Underwood to know he wants to ask her out. He also knows she’s dating someone by his “I don’t know how serious this is” comment. So, yeah, I think it’s a weird combo of ballsy and diss-y to do that in front of Fisher. Still, I love that he didn’t defend himself and say, “OH, dude, it’s SERIOUS.” He let Carrie handle it. I kind of think he’s adorable.

  5. It’s serious… they’re married now. Hockey fans being what they are, it means that Mike Fisher is now called “Mr Underwood” by hecklers. Bless them both, anyway. Great video.
