snippets on watching “enchanted” with the niece

We watched Enchanted Sunday evening — a completely adorable movie in every way. (I basically have a movie crush on James Marsden who plays Edward. Saw him in 27 Dresses as well and I just think he’s got a true comedic spark, a gift. There’s nothing he does in this movie that doesn’t crack me up.) But anyway, here was some of The Peep’s running commentary — things she just said to the movie itself while we watched:

“Well, sometimes, you know, when people go on dates, they just dance.”

“That dress is crazy!” (Of Giselle’s huge fairy tale wedding dress.)

“Hawkeye doesn’t know how to do that.” (Said with great dismay about the family dog’s inability to clean house like the helpful sewer rats and cockroaches of Manhattan.)

“She seems like a very nice almost stepmom.” (About Idina Menzel — she of the amazing pipes and cab-forward jaw — who plays McDreamy’s almost fiance.)

“She is even prettier in person than in the cartoon part!” (Of Amy Adams.)

“Of course it’s romantic; he’s a prince!” (On one character calling something “romantic.”)

Okay. I’m sorry. I’m copping out right here. These are the snippetiest snippets ever because I absolutely have to go to bed. Didn’t sleep last night worrying about whether she was sleeping. Or whether she was hot. Or cold. Or comfortable. Or lonely. Or eco-friendly. Or pH-balanced. Or PABA-free.

I mean, that PABA-free thing, man. I tossed and turned. Tossed and turned.

More snippets to come when I am no longer consumed and sleepless over pH and PABA.

  1. Ttally with you on the James Marsden thing. I never really liked him before, to be honest… but then he does that brilliant turn in Enchanted (he’s so EARNEST. I LOVE that. It MAKES all the jokes.) and he was as good-egg ordinary guy as it is possible for a man with features that chisled to be in 27 Dresses and I found him truly endearing in it. That pretty guy – he can be real funny. Who knew?

Adorable snippets. Looking forward to more. She’s adorable. I’m sure she’s PABA free and pH-balanced. You can always rub some Secret anti-perspirant on her before bed if the PH thing is keeping you up. 😉

  2. Marisa — I know, James Marsden is such a pretty boy! Too pretty for my tastes, but still, I find him completely winning. He totally commits to every moment in that movie. He just IS a fairy tale prince living a perfect, over-the-top, ridiculous life that he doesn’t think is ridiculous at all. Amy Adams is perfect with this, too. They don’t play anything with a knowing wink and it’s so so funny. Earnest, yes, exactly. And all day I’ve been walking around singing, “I’ve been dreaming of my true love’s kiss …..” Gets under your skin, you know?

  3. Amy Adams is one of those actresses that just exudes likeability. We got this by mistake from BB online, instead of “The Seeker” and re-watched it.
I love the daughter- the symbol of all little girls forced into ’empowering’ activities, when they just want to be girly girls.

Not being a Dempsey fan, I might have gone back into the cartoon with Marsden.

  4. So true. She’s just likable. It’s funny; I didn’t start off as a Dempsey fan, but from watching “Grey’s Anatomy” — which I don’t watch anymore because I think they jumped the shark — I’ve grown to really like him. To me, he has a warmth and intelligence about him that I really like. And I loved how he was such a good straight man in this movie. Not too much of a cynical poo-pooer. He was incredulous at first and then just kinda went with it — left himself open for the magic to happen.

  5. Isn’t that a relief, when the “other guy” isn’t a total tool? Think of how many movies are mostly (or completely) ruined by not giving the heroine a geniune choice. One of the many weaknesses of “Titanic” was that Billy Zane was so evil – he hired David Warner to be his henchman, that’s how evil HIS character was. On the other hand, it was a strength of “13 Going On 30” that the “other girl” was at least a reasonable person (what little we saw of her). (As for Hockey Slug, well, he was a NY RANGER, and that’s all you need to know about HIM. Hmph.)

  6. I loved Enchanted. I loved that Disney was making fun of itself and I loved the story. I actually shed a few girly romance tears at the end when they were running through the Riverside apartment as a family.

    Sniff sniff.
